Message Shares = Shares of messages that the given user posted. Counts shares of others and attributes it to the person whose message was shared.
It is important to note direct messages are included in this count so sometimes you will see higher numbers than shown in Yammer. If you see more shares in tyGraph than Yammer the extra shares were to Direct Messages.
